On Building Something Worth Tending
The Zimmerman Urban Garden grows food for the Charlotte Shak Food Pantry, which serves roughly 10,000 people a year. Partnering with Jewish Family Services of Central NJ, the Happiness Collaborative took on a full redesign, rebuild, and rebrand across Graphic Design, Architecture, and Environmental Science. The premise is the one that runs through all of our work: dignity is something you can design into a place. A garden that is clear to navigate, welcoming to volunteers, and proud of its own identity invites people to keep tending it. The build is complete; a wayfinding and volunteer-support package is in progress to carry that care forward.
