The Happiness Collaborative: Cultivating Affective Agency

Co-founded with Denise Anderson, Department Chair: Robert Busch School of Design

The Happiness Collaborative is a community-engaged research platform exploring the intersection of design, public health, and collective wellbeing. It connects students, faculty, and community partners through interdisciplinary design-build projects that treat joy not as an abstraction but as something you can actually build. Each initiative co-designs visual systems and public resources with the communities they serve, fostering social connection, celebrating local identity, and creating lasting tools that remain useful long after the semester ends.

Teaching Artifacts

Emerging Undergraduate Course: AI Literacy & Creative Coding

Working Notes on Prompting: What the Tool Is Actually Doing

A ten-sheet introductory series addressing the most common misconceptions students bring to generative AI tools. Each sheet is a standalone 5-minute reading built for in-class use or independent reference.

Why HTML, Not PDF

These materials are designed as interactive HTML documents rather than static PDFs. Building a navigable, hyperlinked teaching system, even at the artifact level, is itself an application of the High-Tech Humanism framework: the medium demonstrates the argument.

FoundationSheets 1โ€“5

The model is not a person. Establishes that the user holds responsibility for output quality, with emphasis on verification and iterative refinement.

MethodSheets 6โ€“7

Show vs. tell; using context as a resource. Moves from principles to practical construction of effective prompts.

AppliedSheets 8โ€“10

Specific technique families: persona construction, length control, and step-by-step reasoning chains.
